Postdoc in Optimization and Systems Theory

项目介绍

Job description

The position is research-oriented and focuses on mathematical and system-theoretic methods for analysis, control, and risk intervention in financial networks. The overarching goal of the project is to develop a unified theoretical framework for understanding systemic risk and stability in complex financial ecosystems, with particular emphasis on the role of network structure.

The research models financial systems as dynamic, endogenously evolving networks in which agents’ strategic decisions jointly determine network topology and system dynamics. Key topics include equilibrium analysis, stability, robustness, and structural controllability. The work integrates dynamic game theory, graph theory, optimization, and control theory.

A central component of the project concerns dynamic credit scoring under incomplete and asymmetric information. This includes the development of network-based observers, filtering methods, graph-theoretic indicators, and machine-learning approaches such as temporal graph neural networks.

The project also addresses the design of system-level and individual-level intervention strategies aimed at mitigating systemic risk.

Up to 20% of the position may include teaching or supervision duties.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • You are expected to have a strong knowledge of mathematical systems theory. You need to have published journal/conference papers with a focus on systems theory and applications
  • Experience of working with AI tools
  • Proof of research expertise, for example published papers in good journals and peer-reviewed conferences
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work independently.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Personal skills

You should have good analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skill. The research focuses on methods and theory, but you need to have sufficient knowledge/skills in programming.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Preferably you also have experience in networked systems and applications to finance and banking.
  • Experience/knowledge of one or several of the topics: multi-agent systems and game theory
  • Previous experience of method/algorithm development
  • Experience of presenting results at international conferences.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
