About the position
Are you motivated to take a PhD and develop yourself as a researcher? The Department of Music is announcing a position as a PhD research fellow linked to the PhD programme in Humanities and the Arts.
Please note:
- The call does not include PhD education within artistic research.
- Applicants who already has a PhD will not be assessed for the position.
The applicant will develop an independent research project associated with one of the following of the department’s R&D groups:
- Music as a health resource and therapy
- The Portfolio Musician
- LiM – Læring i musikkutdanning
- Estetikk og økologi
- Musicology Research Group: Music, Society, Culture
In the application, you must describe how the project is connected to the selected R&D group, and the department’s academic activity. Well in advance of the application deadline, you must contact the relevant R&D group and obtain confirmation from the potential main supervisor. The main supervisor must be employed at the Department of Music and meet the PhD Regulations’ requirements for doctoral supervision. Use the correct templates listed under “about the application”.
As a PhD research fellow, you are both an employee and a PhD candidate. You are expected to complete the project within the employment period and complete the doctoral degree within the nominal time. The position provides valuable research expertise for further careers both in and outside academia.
The position is scheduled to start on 01.08.27.
Your immediate manager will be the Head of Department.
Required selection criteria
- You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty’s Doctoral Programme, see Section 6-1 of the PhD regulations for more information. Which normally means that:
- You have a relevant master’s degree which include a major independent project (minimum 30 ECTS) equivalent to a master’s thesis
- You must have a strong and relevant academic background from your previous studies and have an average grade from your Master’s degree study, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared to NTNU’s grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation.
- Good oral and written presentation skills in English
If you have weaker grades or a master’s degree below 30 ECTS, you may be considered if you can document that you are exceptionally suited for a PhD education, read more about this under “about the application”.
According to the Regulations on Universities and University Colleges, former PhD research fellows from NTNU cannot be employed in the position, regardless of subject area. Applications from people who already have an approved doctoral degree from other institutions, nationally or internationally, will also not be considered for the position.
The appointment is to be made in accordance with NTNUs guidelines for recruitment positions for general criteria for the position.
