The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg’s top ranking in life science. We are located in central premises at Natrium, Medicinareberget, Gothenburg.

The group of Professor Vladislav Orekhov at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology and the Swedish NMR Centre, develops new methodology for studying the structure, dynamics, and molecular interactions of large biomolecular systems. In this project, you will develop AI-based tools for processing and analyzing NMR spectra of proteins and other molecules.

Duties 

You will design and train new artificial neural networks, as well as utilize and evaluate existing AI tools such as ChatGPT and AlphaFold. The work involves handling synthetic and experimental NMR data, interacting with other group members and staff at the Swedish NMR Centre, and collaborating with industry and international research groups.

Qualifications 

Required education, knowledge and experience, personal qualities – compulsory must

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

• Good oral and written proficiency in English.
• Documented experience in developing artificial neural networks for dealing with large data
• Programing skills in scientific python

Merit education, knowledge and experience, personal qualities – should have

Meritorious:

• Experience in protein NMR data analysis and signal processing
• Experience in working with Unix/Linux
• Experience/Education in Structural Biology 

Employment 

The employment is a fixed term, fulltime 100% during two years (postdoctoral collectivtal agreement)  at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology and at the Swedish NMR-center.
