项目介绍
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg has about 200 employees and is the largest department of mathematics in Sweden. The department conducts successful research in pure and applied mathematics and mathematical statistics in a wide range of research areas. We have an international environment with frequent exchanges with other universities around the world. The department provides a friendly, creative, and supportive atmosphere with a steady flow of international guests. More information about us can be found on our website: http://www.chalmers.se/math/
At the division of Applied Mathematics and Statistics we conduct research within probability theory and its applications, the theory and implementation of finite element methods, inverse wave propagation problems, stochastic partial differential equations, geometric numerical integration, optimization, biomathematics, biostatistics, spatial modeling, Bayesian inference, high-dimensional data, large-scale computational methods, and bioinformatics. The division is also expanding in the area of data science and machine learning.
Our department continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all our activities. We work actively to be a parent-friendly organization.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in probability theory to work in the group of Associate Professor Pierre Nyquist.
Subject area
Probability theory and mathematical statistics
Subject area description
We are looking for a motivated, independent postdoctoral researcher to work on topics at the intersection of applied probability and analysis.
The group around Pierre Nyquist currently consists of three PhD students and is focused on questions in probability theory and analysis related to sampling, optimisation and learning problems in high dimensions. Examples of current research topics include convergence analysis of Markov processes, efficient Monte Carlo methods, large deviations for stochastic processes, and interacting particle systems. The group also has both national and international collaborations.
Duties
The postdoctoral position offers an opportunity to further develop your research profile. The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research. You will also have teaching duties, in the form of undergraduate courses or (co-)supervision of master’s students, for up to a maximum of 20% of your time.
This position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
Eligibility
The applicant should have a PhD degree in a relevant area, such as mathematics, mathematical statistics, or operations research. The PhD degree should normally have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
Previous experience and expertise in any of the following areas is meritious: stochastic analysis, interacting particle systems, large deviations, stochastic control, gradient flows, partial differential equations.
Strong communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English are a requirement.
Employment
Type of employment: Fixed-term employment
