Postdoc position in climate change impacts on vulnerability and resilience

项目介绍

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events on human systems, with a focus on European and Nordic regions.

Project overview
The project involves applying advanced statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and modeling approaches such as agent-based modeling to analyze diverse climate and socioeconomic datasets. By integrating data-driven insights with innovative modeling, this interdisciplinary project aims to enhance our understanding of vulnerability, resilience, and adaptation, ultimately informing effective climate adaptation strategies and policy decisions.

Information about the division and the department
You will be part of the Division of Geoscience and Remote Sensing within the Department of Space, Earth and Environment. Our division focuses on research addressing global environmental challenges and understanding Earth system processes.

You will join the vibrant Climate Dynamics Group, which specializes in climate dynamics, numerical modeling, greenhouse gas emissions, and data-fusion methods, including data assimilation. This position offers opportunities for collaboration with both national and international institutions.

Main responsibilities
As a postdoc, your main responsibility is to conduct research. Research duties include:

  • Collect, process and analyze diverse climate and socioeconomic datasets.
  • Assess the impacts of climate extremes and policy interventions on human-environmental systems.
  • Apply statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to identify vulnerabilities and areas of resilience, particularly in domains such as energy and health.
  • Develop and implement integrated models and macro-micro analyses to understanding complex system dynamics and interactions.

If there is interest, the position also offers opportunities for teaching and (co-)supervision of master’s and PhD students (no more than 20% of working hours).

Qualifications
To qualify for the position, you must have a PhD in environmental science, environmental management, climate science, sustainability science, or another closely related field.
Additional requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong skills in programming and data analysis.
  • Track record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals.

Meritorious qualifications include:

  • Experience with statistical analysis and machine learning using Python, R, STATA, or similar tools.
  • Experience with agent-based modeling and working with socioeconomic datasets.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years, with possible extension for a third year contingent on performance and funding.
