PostDoc: Can Dutch wetlands offset climate warming?

项目介绍

Your function

Drained Dutch peatlands currently emit large quantities of greenhouse gasses because of peat degradation. At the same time, these peatlands also hold the potential to capture and store carbon when developed as natural or production wetlands (paludiculture). You will study CO2 and methane emissions from natural wetlands and paludiculture sites throughout the Netherlands and contribute to the Dutch framework for GHG-reporting for wetland systems focusing on methane.

Your duties

  • Quantify emissions of CO2 and Methane from wetland systems (natural and paludiculture)
  • Work on model improvements for upscaling methane emissions
  • Work closely together with a PhD student on model development and translate findings towards SOMERS.
  • Contribute to maintaining and setting up field-sites and closely collaborate with and co-supervise the field-team
  • Publish results in scientific journals and present on scientific conferences.
  • Participate in education of EarthScience and Alife departments
  • Participate in outreach activities

Your profile

  • PhD in Biogeochemistry, Environmetal sciences, Hydrology or Soil ecology, preferably towards GHG emissions of organic soils
  • Experience with Eddy Covariance GHG measurements and data processing is a pro
  • Experience with field observation, large datasets, and programming approaches to handle the datasets
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research team
  • English language proficiency both in speech and in writing
  • Driving license
