Your work assignments
The research project focuses on next-generation actuator systems for aircraft. The aim is to explore new system concepts while ensuring that strict requirements on redundancy and safety are fulfilled. The project also includes analysis of how these concepts affect key system properties such as weight, performance, dynamic behaviour, operational reliability, and maintenance needs. The work aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the trade-offs that arise between cost, performance, and reliability in the design of future aircraft systems. The research will include both theoretical and experimental studies in hydraulics, aeronautical engineering, and control engineering.
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20 per cent of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at Master’s level or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way. The requirement for a degree must be met no later than the time the employment decision is finalized, which means that you may apply for the position while completing your studies.
It is advantageous if you have completed advanced courses in hydraulics, aeronautics, control and electrical engineering. Very good knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of Swedish is considered meritorious but is not a requirement. Furthermore, you should have the ability to work independently, be proactive and goal-oriented, and possess strong analytical problem-solving skills. You should also be clear in your communication and have the ability to collaborate with others.
Your workplace
The doctoral position is within the subject area of mechanical engineering with specialization in fluid and mechatronic systems and belongs to the Faculty of Science and Engineering. You will be part of the Division of Fluid and Mechatronic Systems, which conducts research and education in hydraulics, mechatronics, simulation, and aeronautical engineering. An important part of the research consists of developing methods and simulation techniques to achieve better solutions, as well as verifying and validating results through physical testing. We offer courses in hydraulics, mechatronics, and aircraft design at both undergraduate and advanced levels, primarily within the Master of Science in Engineering programme in Mechanical Engineering (300 credits), the Master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering (120 credits), and Aeronautical Engineering (120 credits).
The employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University
The employment has a duration of normally four years’ full-time equivalent. Extension of employment up to five years is based on the degree of teaching and institutional assignment. Further extensions may be granted in exceptional circumstances. You will initially be employed for one year, after which your employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, depending on your progress through the study plan.
Starting date by agreement.
Background screening may come to be carried out before any decision on employment is made.
