At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Health Science and Technology, one or more PhD stipends in Social Prescribing are available for appointment from August 1, 2026, or soon hereafter.
The PhD stipend is available for a period of 3 years starting 1. August 2026. The PhD stipend will be part of the doctoral program in Primary Health Care at the Faculty of Medicine.

As The Faculty of Medicine wishes PhD positions to enable careers both within and outside the university, the vacant positions are created in such a way that the competences achieved in the position will qualify for both a research career and a career in the commercial and/or public sector. At least a year before the position expires, you will be offered an interview to clarify your future career.

Job description:

This PhD stipend will be affiliated to the EU-funded project Social Prescribing (SP-EU). The PhD student will be involved in the first randomized control trial testing social prescribing in the Danish context. A site-specific process evaluation of the roll-out of the social prescribing trial will also be conducted.

The PhD stipend will collect and analyse data throughout the randomized control trial. This will involve regular communication with participants, as well as with general practitioners and link workers, along with collaboration within the Danish research hub and the European consortium. Thus, the PhD stipend must be capable of working independently with the multiple tasks involved, as well as in close collaboration with research participants, practitioners and other researchers.

The PhD will be affiliated to the Active Health group at the Department of Health Science and Technology. The main supervisor will be the head of research group, professor, Sine Agergaard, while co-supervisors will be head of the Center for General Practice, professor Janus Laust Thomsen, and head of the Danish Center for Health Services Research, professor Søren Paaske Johnsen.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have:

• a master’s degree in public health, medicine or related programs
• well-developed skills in conducting analysis and disseminating results (knowledge about/ experience with randomized controlled trial and process evaluation are seen as advantages)
• structured and systematic approach to work with quality as the guiding principle
• interpersonal skills and collaborative competency
• advanced language skills in Danish and English (oral and written)

Qualification requirements
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master’s degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School in Medicine, Biomedical Science and Technology in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1124 of September 19, 2025 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time. As part of the PhD study, you are among other things required to complete PhD courses corresponding to 30 ECTS, gain experience with teaching or other forms of knowledge dissemination and complete an external research stay outside of Aalborg University, preferably 3-6 months at a foreign research institution.
