项目介绍
We are seeking a talented and motivated young researcher to join our team as a PhD student and tackle the exciting scientific challenges of our open position. The project is primarily experimental, complemented by numerical modeling, and will be carried out within the “Fiber Optics, Devices, and Nonlinear Effects” group at DTU Electro.
As a PhD student, you will be part of a dynamic research environment with strong expertise in the design, characterization, and application of optical fibers supporting higher-order modes. You will also benefit from close collaboration and synergies with other ongoing projects in the group, as well as interdisciplinary activities across the department, all centered on advancing the understanding and application of higher-order mode propagation in optical fibers.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The basic principle of a laser is to convert low utility pump beams into a coherent high quality laser beam, referred to as brightness enhancement. Fiber lasers are often the preferred solution compared to bulky tabletop, as fiber lasers provide high beam quality, high repetition rate, and narrow spectral linewidth. One shortcoming of fiber lasers is the limited available wavelength regions, since brightness enhancement is typically realized by doping the fibers with certain rare-earth elements, offering lasing around 1, 1.5, and 2 µm. In the proposed project you will develop a new platform based on higher order modes and the Raman effect to demonstrate high-power fiber lasers and amplifiers at arbitrary wavelength. The project will among others consist of the following:
- Numerical simulation of multimode Raman interaction
- Mode excitation in optical fibers
- Characterize the modal purity of a multimode Raman amplifier
- Develop and implement spatial mode filters
- Demonstrate brightness enhancement in a higher order mode Raman fiber laser
You must have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree.
