Project description and work tasks
Enterobacter cloacae is one of the ESKAPE pathogens that are notorious for their increasing antimicrobial resistance. Despite its medical importance, details of its pathogenesis mechanisms are mostly unknown. In this project, the PhD fellow will elucidate the role of bacterial adhesins in Enterobacter cloacae infections. We have previously identified several different adhesins in the genomes of Enterobacter cloacae strains.
The PhD fellow will generate loss-of-function mutants to elucidate the role of these adhesins in host cell binding during infections, using cell culture and other infection models. In parallel, the PhD fellow will express and purify the adhesin proteins for in vitro binding assays. Part of the project will be to establish an infection model using the nematode C. elegans, to study the impact of the target adhesins on host colonization.Jarli og Jordan/UiO
