Project description
In all eukaryotic organisms, peptide ligands play a pivotal role in cellular communication acting as key players in regulating physiological processes, from growth and development to immune responses and adaptive behaviour. These peptides are typically translated as peptide-precursors that are proteolytically processed into their mature form before they are able to exert their function. In this project we will explore the spatiotemporal mechanisms by which these processing enzymes and their peptide substrates operate.
Your main tasks will be
The candidate will study the spatiotemporal regulatory mechanisms underlying the processing of bioactive peptides in two established model systems: cell separation events in the plant Arabidopsis thaliana and venom production in the insect Chrysoperla carnea.
The candidate will be working across a broad range of fields, including single cell transcriptomics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and experimental functional genetics, and will be jointly based in the groups of Prof. Melinka Butenko and Eivind Undheim at the University of Oslo Department of Biosciences.
