The position is located within the Department of Psychology at the University of Zurich and offers an outstanding work and research environment. The workgroup for Quantitative Methods of Intervention and Evaluation is active and internationally connected in quantitative methods and psychometrics. The workgroup’s focus is to develop and apply new statistical methods and software for (intensive) longitudinal and multilevel data, extending and linking classical statistical approaches used in psychology (e.g. SEM, regression) with newer approaches such as Bayesian methods, stochastic differential equations (continuous time), and machine learning.

Your responsibilities

The successful applicant will be supervised by the head of the Quantitative Methods unit, Prof. Dr. Charles Driver, and work with the research team. This position is primarily research oriented but also involves some teaching, statistical consulting, and support of bachelors and masters students.
Research Focus: Our research focuses on developing and applying advanced quantitative methods in psychology. The focus of the PhD is quite flexible, and could range from heavily empirical to primarily conceptual / statistical. Specific areas of interest include:

• Longitudinal and dynamic systems modelling
• Software development for psychological research
• Model fit assessment for complex models
• Machine learning for longitudinal data
• Large-scale model development, possibly leveraging large language models

Your profile

• A masters in psychology, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline
• Experience with psychological or related research
• Excellent methodological skills
• Very good command of English

It Would Also Be Desirable If You Had:

• Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Julia, C++)
• Experience with statistical consulting
• Experience with publishing in international journals
• Proficiency in German
