PhD candidate Plant Light Signalling

项目介绍

Job description

Are you passionate about understanding the molecular biology of plant-light interactions? Do you have the drive to break new ground in cellular aspects of developmental plasticity in plants? Are you excited to work in a vibrant, international team of plant scientists? If yes, then we may have the perfect opportunity for you!

The Plant Photobiology group in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology is recruiting an enthusiastic PhD candidate with a profound interest in plant molecular biology, light signalling and developmental biology.

Plants use light for photosynthesis and as a source of information about their environment. We are excited to study and/or engineer the molecular mechanisms of light signalling both as a resource and as an information channel. In this PhD project you will investigate tissues-level and cellular aspects of developmental plasticity in response to light cues. We focus our research especially on shade avoidance responses to light cues of high planting densities and aim to generate knowledge that is needed to improve crops in other projects.

As a new team member, you will also have the opportunity to strengthen the teaching and supervision of BSc and MSc students in plant molecular biology. Since we intend to break new grounds and make new connections in research on plant-light interactions, collaborations within and between groups are strongly supported.

In this PhD trajectory you can:

  • enthusiastically develop your plant molecular biology basic research skills;
  • establish collaborations with experts in various aspects of plant-light interactions, molecular biology and cell biology;
  • supervise BSc and MSc students in the lab and develop teaching skills in our courses.

Requirements

You are/ You have:

  • an MSc degree in Plant Science, Molecular Biology or a related field.
  • strong experience with plant molecular biology approaches.
  • experience with Arabidopsis thaliana and photobiology are advantages.
  • creative and have strong problem-solving skills.
  • an enthusiastic team player with strong communication skills and proficiency in English. For this position your command of the English language is expected to be at least at C1 level. For more information about this proficiency level, please visit our language page.

You will work here
This position is embedded within the Laboratory of Molecular Biology that is one of the two pillars of the cluster Plant Developmental Biology at Wageningen University. Prof. Ronald Pierik took over the leadership of this group in September 2023 and as part of this transition, has been building a new plant photobiology group within the Laboratory of Molecular Biology. This PhD position is within the plant photobiology group that combines expertise on shade avoidance, chloroplast development, photosynthesis and circadian clocks.
