Then join the Finance group as a PhD candidate or postdoctoral researcher!

The Finance group at the Department of Economics and Business Economics of the Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is seeking candidates for a 4-year PhD candidate or 2-year postdoctoral researcher position (with possible extension). This position is particularly suited for students recently graduated in Finance, Economics, Econometrics, or equivalent, with research interests in sustainable/ESG preferences and investing. The position is funded by a grant from Netspar, which may lead to collaboration with industry partners (Dutch pension funds, insurance companies and policy makers) and academics in Germany and Australia. The successful candidate will collaborate with Prof. Stefan Zeisberger and Dr Jorgo Goossens.        

This position is expected to result in a series of high-quality papers and/or publications. The Nijmegen School of Management explicitly encourages interdisciplinary research.

Profile

  • You are a candidate with high research potential or achievements, as evidenced by excellent grades (only for PhD student application) and a writing sample, such as your Bachelor/Master /PhD thesis, working paper, or a (forthcoming or published) article.
  • You are able to develop research ideas in the area of behavioral finance, with a focus on the topic of sustainability/ESG (Environmetal, Social, and Governance).
  • You are a candidate with willingness to interact with faculty colleagues and contribute to the intellectual environment.
  • You have the ability to communicate research in seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • You are able to communicate in English; command of the Dutch language is an advantage.
  • You are highly motivated.

The Finance group, part of the department of Economics and Business Economics at the Nijmegen School of Management, is an internationally recognised research group with a strong focus on high-quality academic research, specifically in the area of behavioural and experimental finance. Faculty members regularly publish in top finance and economics journals and present their work at top academic conferences every year. We are a diverse and amicable group. Our weekly academic seminar series features prominent speakers. We also maintain strong links to schools in North America, Europe and Australia. The finance group is part of the the department of Economics and Business Economics which consists of a total of four chair groups: Economic Theory and Policy, International Economics, Business Economics, and Finance. What sets the Nijmegen curriculum in Economics apart is that it is characterised by a multidisciplinary approach, whereby in addition to the economics discipline, inspiration is sought from other areas.

Nijmegen School of Management
The Nijmegen School of Management enables students, institutions and companies, social actors and governments to play their part in the transformation towards sustainable societies. More than 5,000 students are currently enrolled in our challenging Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. With over 500 academic and support staff, we provide education and research that has a significant impact on society in matters relating to the domains of social economy, resilient society and he sustainable environment. We work closely within the fields of business administration, economics and business economics, geography, spatial planning and environment, public administration and political science. Academic research is carried out at the Institute for Management Research (IMR). The Education Institute is the home base for all education within the faculty.

We offer

  • Depending on your scientific track record and experience you will be appointed as a PhD candidate or postdoctoral researcher.
  • As a postdoctoral researcher, you will receive a temporary employment contract of 2 years (0,8-1,0 FTE), until 31 August 2026 (with possible extension). Your gross monthly salary amounts €4,332 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11.0). The amounts in the scale are based on a 38-hour working week.
  • As a PhD candidate, you will receive a temporary employment contract (1.0 FTE) of 1,5 years, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, your contract will be extended by 2.5 years (until 31 August 2028).  You will receive a starting salary of €2,770 gross per month based on a 38-hour working week, which will increase to €3,539 in the fourth year (salary scale P).
  • You will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% end-of-year bonus.
  • You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Support Service. The Dual Career Programme assists your partner via support, tools, and resources to improve their chances of independently finding employment in the Netherlands. Our Family Support Service helps you and your partner feel welcome and at home by providing customised assistance in navigating local facilities, schools, and amenities.   • You will receive extra days off. With full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the statutory 20.
