项目介绍
This position includes an additional 6 months of funding, extending beyond the standard 3-year employment period.
The research focuses on hydrodynamic load modelling for Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWTs) with flexible floaters. The primary objective is to understand how floater flexibility affects system dynamics, external and internal loads, and, in general, the outcomes of design analyses. The research will also explore how these effects can be accurately and efficiently captured in numerical simulations. Special emphasis is placed on hydrodynamic loads for floaters modelled using shell finite elements that could experience both linear and nonlinear structural behaviour.
Three different approaches are planned for coupled hydrodynamic-structural analysis:
- CFD-FEM (e.g., STAR-CCM+ and Abaqus co-simulation)
- AI-accelerated CFD-FEM by user coding to integrate machine learning into Approach #1.
- Potential theory-based FEM
The accuracy and computational efficiency of the AI-accelerated CFD-FEM approach will be compared with conventional CFD-FEM and potential theory-based approaches. Numerical models are to be validated against experimental data, which may be sourced from existing literature or generated through experimental work at NTNU.
