YOUR TASKS
- Design and develop electrode matrices for in-ear sensing (dry electrodes for EEG/EOG/EMG).
- Integrate multimodal sensors (PPG, IMU) into earbud prototypes.
- Develop integration technologies for embedding electronics in soft polymer earbud structures.
- Optimize wearability and user comfort while ensuring high-quality signal acquisition.
- Design and evaluate biosignal amplifier circuits, conduct signal quality analysis and contribute to improving SNR and robustness against motion artifacts
- Work closely with other teams on data acquisition protocols and sensor calibration.
- Document designs, prepare reports, and contribute to scientific publications and demonstrators.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
CMST (imec associated lab at UGent) is seeking a motivated Researcher to join our team working on advanced wearable technologies for cognitive and physiological state monitoring. This role is part of the PADRE project, which aims to develop next-generation multimodal sensing platforms for real-time monitoring of manual task execution and cognitive states in high-stakes environments.
- You will contribute to the design, prototyping, and validation of in-ear sensing devices that integrate dry electrodes and multimodal sensors (EEG, EOG, EMG, PPG, IMU) for unobtrusive cognitive state assessment.
- Holds a Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Physics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related field
- Expertise in sensor design and integration, preferably in wearable or biomedical devices.
- Familiarity with electrophysiological signal acquisition (EEG/EOG/EMG) and signal processing.
- Experience with PCB design, embedded electronics, measurement setups or laboratory characterization techniques
- Experience with microfabrication, flexible/stretchable electronics, and polymer integration is a plus.
- Experience with Blender, Autocad is a plus
- Comfortable working in cleanroom environments / labs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
