PhD position Digital Lifestyles and Mental Wellbeing in Adolescents Using mHealth and EEG Methodologies

项目介绍

Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

The IMPACT research group (Innovative use of Mobile Phones to promote physical ACTivity and nutrition across the life span), led by Professor Marie Löf, currently consists of 35 active research and educational personnel, both senior and junior. The group’s research focuses on the improvement of health and quality of life in humans, both in normal and clinical populations. The group has a special focus on the prevention of overweight and obesity in pregnancy and childhood, using mobile phone technology (mHealth) to measure diet and physical activity, and to deliver interventions promoting healthier lifestyles. The group also has a strong educational character, with an active role in the education of Nutrition at Karolinska Institutet.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

We are looking for a PhD candidate in nutrition and technology-assisted behavioural measurements to join the research team of Researcher Ioannis Ioakeimidis within the IMPACT research group. Ioannis’ research has a wide scope, spanning from clinical and real-world studies across different populations, focusing on the use of novel technologies to monitor health-related behaviours and support behavioural change and extending to technological development and advanced data analytics.

As a doctoral student, you will examine how objectively quantified digital lifestyle parameters relate to lifestyle behaviours, mental wellbeing and neurophysiological responses among children and adolescents. Your research will focus on the characterisation of digital environments and digital behaviour metrics, including analyses of the intensity and timing of children’s interactions with social media, short-form video, messaging apps and digital games. You will also explore how these factors are associated with lifestyle and behavioural regulation, including dietary habits, sleep, physical activity, sedentary time and daily routines.

The project will also include EEG-based neurophysiological research, examining characteristics and responses to digital content related to attention, inhibitory control and emotional processing. These measures will be used to explore potential mechanisms and differences in response to digital experiences.

The work will combine technology-assisted behavioural research with research conducted in real-world settings and will include objective collection of data on digital behaviours and lifestyle habits, EEG-based studies, and longitudinal analyses. Depending on the final individual study plan and project development, the work may also include qualitative or co-creation activities involving young people, families, schools and other relevant stakeholders.
