Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in South American mobility law from 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position is a fixed term full-time position for 24 months.
Introduction
The Danish National Research Foundation’s Center of Excellence for Global Mobility Law (MOBILE) is seeking a postdoctoral candidate with experience in the interplay between legal regimes in the adoption, implementation and enforcement of mobility law in South America. Mobility law refers to the body of legal rules and practices that govern cross-border human movement, including how people may enter, reside, move, and work across states. It spans different legal domains, including free movement, migration, transnational labour, refugee, and human rights frameworks.
This position is situated within MOBILE’s overarching research agenda, which analyses the legal processes through which regional infrastructures for cross-border human mobility are shaped and subsequently implemented, enforced, and contested in practice. Applicants are expected to conduct socio-legal research that empirically examines the development, implementation, and contestation of South American regional migration and free movement legal frameworks, particularly in their interaction with domestic and international legal regimes. The research will moreover contribute to the broader study of mobility systems across different regions. Hence, the candidate will be expected to closely engage in comparative and interdisciplinary collaborations with other staff at the MOBILE center.
Duties and Responsibilities
The postdoc position is primarily dedicated to research. The position also includes a teaching obligation, and other duties may be required to a limited extent. The university determines the exact ration between the various responsibilities. The ratio may vary over time.
Qualification requirements and assessment criteria
Employment as a Postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
More information on careers at UCPH and the requirement for the different academic positions is available on: Career at The University of Copenhagen – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk).

The prospective candidate should have a proven track record in researching mobility law in South America and other contexts, as well as proficiency in doctrinal and empirical legal methods. The candidate is expected to engage with theoretical and data analysis of legal provisions and judgements and have experience with qualitative analysis.
Ideally, the candidate should have fieldwork experience in the South American region.
All applicants must be able to use English as a working language. Considering the language of legal sources, proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese is an advantage.
You will primarily be assessed in relation to your research qualifications, including your publications, ability to conduct independent research and participate in research collaborations as well as your experience in research management. In addition, the applicant’s research plan and research potential will be assessed in relation to the overall job content described above.
Documented teaching experience will be included in the overall assessment, as well as information on what courses the candidate can teach at the Faculty of Law.
