Postdoc in COF catalysts for CO2 electrochemical reduction

项目介绍

This position offers the opportunity to engage in advanced research on the electrochemical conversion of CO₂. You will work in a dynamic academic environment at the interface of chemistry and materials science, contributing to the green transition through carbon utilization technologies. The 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, awarded for advances in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), has underscored the importance of reticular chemistry, the design and assembly of molecular building blocks into extended, crystalline networks with tailored functionality. As fully organic counterparts, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are constructed from light elements (e.g., C, H, O, N, B) through robust covalent linkages. These materials exhibit exceptional chemical stability, low density, and tunable electronic properties. This postdoctoral position focuses on the development of high-performance COF-based catalysts for CO₂ electroreduction.

About us

The Yang Group is a materials science-based research team in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, which has established academic strengths in the field of fundamental and applied research within chemistry and chemical engineering. The research activities will be conducted in the Division of Chemistry and Biochemistry, where we pursue high-standard scientific research in organic/medicinal chemistry, theoretical chemistry, biophysical chemistry, optical spectroscopy, nanotechnology, analytical chemistry and energy/electron transfer reactions. The span of potential applications is extremely wide: from life sciences to materials sciences.

The research in Yang group focuses on organic materials with permanent porosity, such as covalent organic frameworks (COFs). By combining chemistry and engineering strategies, we develop porous materials with versatile built-in nanochannels for various applications.

About the research project

This project focuses on CO₂ electroreduction. By utilizing COFs with embedded metal centers or clusters, we aim to develop porous electrodes with high catalytic activity, enabling the efficient conversion of CO₂ into green fuels and value-added chemical feedstocks.

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree in chemistry or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience in CO₂ electroreduction
  • Experience in functional porous materials

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • Experience in coin cell, H-cell, flow-cell assembly for energy storage and catalysis
  • Experience in metal-cluster-based COFs
  • Experience in mixed-conductive COFs
  • Priority will be given to candidate who is able to submit an application to the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) in 2026.

What you will do

  • Synthesizing COFs with CO₂ catalytic centers
  • Developing high performance electrodes for CO₂ electroreduction
