About the position 

The Department of Nutrition has an open position for a doctoral candidate for a period of up to 3 years in clinical nutrition. 

The position is associated with the research program “Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease in Women after Childbearing”.  

More about the position 

The project is a collaboration between the Department of Nutrition, University of Oslo and the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and is mainly funded by The Throne Holst Nutrition Research Foundation and The Research Council of Norway. The main objective is to investigate the association between breastfeeding and maternal weight develoment, as well as risk factors for cardiovascular disease in women after childbirth. Data from Norwegian and Swedish observational cohort studies (NOWAC, SCAPIS) and randomized clinical intervention trials in lactating women will be used. The position is based at the Department of Nutrition, UiO with the possibility of spending part of the time at The University of Gothenburg.

The research fellow must take part in the faculty’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

The applicant must, in collaboration with her/his supervisor, within 3 months after employment, have worked out a complete project description to be attached to the application for admission to the doctoral program. A shorter appointment period may be granted if the candidate has already completed parts of their research education program, or when the appointment is based on previous employment in an educational position (such as a research assistant, or similar), so that the total duration of the research education amounts to 3 years.

  • Participate in professional development and knowledge dissemination within relevant topics

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a master’s degree (120 ECTS) in clinical nutrition with minimum grade B (ECTS grading scale) or equivalent. The Master’s degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language)

In addition, the following qualifications will be considered positively

  • Documented research work within women’s health epidemiology
  • Previous experience working with large datasets and preferably using STATA
  • Experience with randomized clinical trials, anthropometric methods, and dietary surveys
