The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder, which is present in 10-15% of the population in Western countries. The mechanisms explaining the symptoms are not fully understood, and the importance of different food items is unclear. The Neurogastroenterology research group at the department of molecular and clinical medicine has a long-standing experience in performing successful translational research focusing on the complex pathophysiology and symptom patterns in IBS, including research focusing on the role of food in IBS.

Subject area description
Gastrointestinal food research focuses on the effects of different food items on the function of the gastrointestinal tract and their effect on gastrointestinal symptoms.
Neurogastroenterology focuses on brain-gut interactions, and include medical conditions related to alteration in these interactions. This position will specifically focus on the effects of food on these interactions, and how food influences symptom experiences in patients with IBS and other functional gastrointestinal disorders.
Job Assignments
You will be responsible for recruitment and inclusion of patients in treatment studies evaluating the effect of different dietary strategies on patients with IBS, including analyses of the results from these studies.
In addition, you will be responsible for studies investigating how food leads to symptoms in patients with IBS and other functional gastrointestinal disorders, with specific focus on effects of food on brain-gut interactions.
Eligibility
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree in a relevant subject, or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.
In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.
Assessment criteria
The position requires a doctoral degree. Good command of English, both written and spoken language, is required.
Previous work with research on the field of clinical nutrition and gastroenterology, and practical experience in delivering dietary advice to patients with IBS and other gastrointestinal diseases are clearly advantageous. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for this position, where documented clinical training, good organizational skills and ability to collaborate with different professions are considered particularly advantageous.
