The National Food Institute (DTU Food) offers a PhD position related to studies of the potential of microbial expression of high-quality protein for human consumption.
You will be part of the Research group for Microbial Biotechnology and Biorefining at DTU Food. We offer an ambitious, dynamic and sociable research environment with lots of exiting challenges and opportunities.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate will be carrying out research in the field of cellular agriculture/precision fermentation. The overall aim of the project is to develop efficient bacterial cell factories for the expression of functional mammalian proteins and test these as food ingredients in food models. The PhD. position is a collaboration between DTU Food, DTU Biosustain and a danish dairy company.
Candidates should have a master’s degree in food technology or biotechnology, or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.
Candidates are expected to have interest and knowledge within sustainable food production. You need to be ambitious, highly motivated, and capable of working independently, and to have good skills within written and spoken English.
Preference will be given to candidates with documented hand-on experience within one or more of the following areas: design and gene cloning, heterologous expression of mammalian proteins in bacteria, protein purification and characterisation, microfluidic based high throughput screening.
Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
