Postdoctoral position in the Economics of Migration and Mobility Law

项目介绍

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Economics of Migration and Mobilities from 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is a fixed term full-time position for 24 months.

Introduction
The research position is situated at the Danish National Research Foundation’s Center of Excellence for Global Mobility Law, MOBILE. We seek a strong candidate with research expertise in the economics of international migration and mobility law, with particular focus on advanced quantitative methods and the construction and harmonisation of large-scale datasets linking comparative legal perspectives and de facto migration and mobility. The position is part of MOBILE’s effort to expand its quantitative empirical capacity at the interface of law, transnational mobility, and economics and inequality.

The position is connected to MOBILE’s core grant from the Danish National Research Foundation, which established the Center of Excellence for Global Mobility Law to systematically study the legal infrastructures of human mobility across geographies, social divides, travel patterns and time. Within this broader research programme, the postdoc will be expected to pursue empirical research on the determinants and consequences of cross-border human mobility under different and shifting legal and policy regimes, working in an interdisciplinary team and contributing methods such as gravity models, causal inference designs, and regression-based decomposition techniques. The postdoc will also be able to pursue their own research ideas within the overarching scope of MOBILE’s research agenda.

Further information about the MOBILE center’s activities and overall research agenda can be found at https://mobilitylaw.ku.dk.

Duties and Responsibilities
The postdoc position is primarily dedicated to research. The position also includes a teaching obligation. The postdoc will moreover be expected to participate in and actively contribute to regular meetings and academic events related to MOBILE’s research programme, as well as overall meetings and activities organised by the MOBILE Center. The university determines the exact ratio between the various responsibilities. The ratio may vary over time.

Qualification requirements and assessment criteria

Employment as a Postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

More information on careers at UCPH and the requirement for the different academic positions is available on: Career at The University of Copenhagen – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk).

For more information about Postdoc positions and qualification requirements, please see the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities: Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013 (ufm.dk).

The prospective candidate should hold a PhD in economics, statistics or a closely related quantitative social-science discipline and have an established track record of research on international migration and/or transnational human mobility. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong command of advanced empirical methods central to economics and law, including gravity models, causal inference designs, and regression-based decomposition techniques. Substantial experience in the construction, harmonisation, and documentation of relevant large-scale datasets is thus a requirement.

You will primarily be assessed in relation to your research qualifications, including your publications, ability to conduct independent research and participate in research. As a Center of Excellence, particular emphasis will be placed on innovative research and interdisciplinary methods, as well as the ability to publish in leading journals. Experience contributing to larger collaborative or international research consortia and a demonstrated commitment to co-authoring and open science will moreover be considered an advantage. Excellent written and spoken English is required.

Documented teaching experience will be included in the overall assessment as well as information on what courses the candidate can teach at the University of Copenhagen.
