Department of Economics

The Department of Economics invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join its research group “Agricultural and Food Economics”.

About the position

The postdoctoral project focuses on farm-level economic impacts of uptake of farming practices in line with environmental sustainability, in particular using simulation approaches to estimate the economic consequences of a transition. The postdoctoral project will also investigate how farmers and processing industries can collaborate to facilitate farmers’ uptake of more sustainable farming practices. The position is part of two externally funded research projects; one is the collaborative research centre SustAinimal, the other one is a research project entitled Strategies for farm-level economically viable environmental sustainability transition funded by the Swedish Farmers’ Foundation for Agricultural Research. The position will include significant interactions with food system actors. Teaching and supervision at bachelor and master level (maximum 20% of full time) is also expected, as well as participation in applications for external research funding.

Your profile

Applicants should have a background and PhD in agricultural economics, applied economics or economics and knowledge of methods used in quantitative analysis. Applicants should have a profile towards agricultural or food economics.

Applicants should be highly motivated to work in the postdoctoral project described above, be used to taking own initiatives and to work in teams and should have documented experience in publishing in high quality scientific journals. Very good skills in English (both written and oral) are required. 

In addition, applicants should have one or more of the following qualifications:

• Experience and interest in conducting interdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary research
• Experience in sustainability measurement in agriculture and food.
• Experience in collaborations between research and food system actors.
• Experience in data handling and empirical analysis

 Personal merits will play a significant role in the recruitment.

Within this framework, the Department of Economics provides an important platform for research and teaching in Economics and Business. The teaching activities are centered around educational programmes at Bachelor and Master level. The research departs from four thematic fields, where agricultural and food economics is one.

In the research group “Agricultural and Food Economics”, the successful candidate will find a stimulating context with colleagues who focus on various aspects of agricultural and food economics, including production economics, consumer economics, agricultural and food policy, and trade. The topics of interest add to the literature in agricultural economics and related fields. We have vivid disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations, for instance with researchers in crop production, technology, animal health and veterinary epidemiology. The group consists of about 20 staff-members, including several PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, senior researchers and a professor.
