We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for an ongoing research project
The aim of the research project is to develop a supportive intervention for individuals with malignant brain tumours and their relatives. The position holder will join the research group “Care for people with long-term conditions: paediatric care, neurological care, and palliative care”, and the project is conducted in close collaboration with the Clinical Brain Tumour Research group at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Sahlgrenska Academy. The project utilises both qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Job Description
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be part of a research network focused on brain tumour research at the Sahlgrenska Academy. Your primary responsibilities will include developing, adapting, evaluating, and implementing the supportive intervention. You are expected to participate in multiple projects concurrently and work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
You will play an active role in developing the supportive intervention and be responsible for data collection, data analysis, and manuscript preparation, working closely with the project’s principal investigator (PI) and other collaborators. Initially, you will be involved in designing the intervention study. Subsequently, you will test, further develop, and ultimately implement the intervention. Additionally, you will collaborate with the research team in study planning, data collection, data processing, analysis, interpretation of results, and dissemination through scientific publications and presentations at both national and international levels. You are also expected to contribute to the development of the research group’s future activities.
The role further includes engaging with relevant stakeholders and the general public to ensure the research has practical applications.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree, an artistic doctoral degree, or hold a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the date when the employment decision is made.
Priority will be given to candidates who have obtained their degree within the last three years prior to the application deadline. However, candidates who obtained their degree earlier may also be considered if special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, service in trade union positions, military service, or other similar reasons, as well as clinical or other work relevant to the subject area.
Please note that qualifications for postdoctoral appointments are described in more detail at: Avtal om tidsbegränsning anställning som postdoktor (arbetsgivarverket.se)
The employment as a postdoc is described in more detail in the University of Gothenburg’s Appointment Procedure for Teachers: Styrdokument | Göteborgs universitet (gu.se) under “Personal-Handläggningsordning”.
Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, you must hold a doctoral degree in health sciences, neuroscience, or another relevant healthcare discipline, along with experience in clinical research on malignant gliomas in adults. A professional healthcare licence is required.
Applicants must also have experience in both quantitative and qualitative research involving brain tumour patients. Competence in using and analysing data from patient-reported questionnaires or instruments measuring quality of life, mental health, and cognition is essential. Experience conducting individual interviews and focus group interviews is also required.
Fluency in both Swedish and English, spoken and written, is a requirement, as the research is conducted in both languages. Additional language skills are considered advantageous as they enable interviews to be conducted in more languages.
Experience with research on both low-grade gliomas and IDH-wildtype gliomas is meritorious, as is experience with multidisciplinary research collaborations and multicentre studies. Having obtained independent research funding, clinical healthcare experience, and training in social or behavioural sciences are also considered advantageous.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, statistical software such as SPSS, Nvivo, artificial intelligence tools, and reference management software like Endnote is required.
The role demands a structured, flexible, and independent approach to work. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as is the ability to engage with people professionally and empathetically, particularly those who are seriously ill and their relatives during crises.
Special emphasis will be placed on personal suitability during this recruitment. A comprehensive assessment of competence and skills will be conducted to find the candidate best suited to carry out the tasks and contribute to the development of the research environment.
