哥德堡大学

Postdoctor in Nutrition

项目介绍

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts research in several different areas, such as osteoporosis, endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, respiratory medicine and allergology, and clinical nutrition focusing on body composition and energy metabolism. The research is conducted in close collaboration with health care at both the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Mölndal Hospital.

Subject area

Nutrition

Specific subject description

Nutrition research at the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition includes both observational studies and randomized controlled dietary trials. The research aims to increase understanding of how diet affects health, with a focus on cardiometabolic diseases, biomarkers of dietary intake, and the composition of the diet. In the area of nutritional metabolomics, possible patterns of biomarkers in blood and urine for dietary intake are identified using observational studies as well as in controlled meal studies and longer intervention studies of whole diets. The intervention study Baritone (Biomarker patterns reflecting habitual food intake) aims to identify patterns of biomarkers that capture dietary protein source and high and low intake of vegetables and fruit. Metabolomics analyses are carried out using mass spectroscopy. In the observational study VOV (Vegan Omnivore Vegetarian), differences among metabolites are investigated between habitual vegans, vegetarians and omnivores. Here, detailed data on dietary intake during 4 days preceding blood sampling exist. Metabolomics data from NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) analyses have already been evaluated in VOV and published, where differences in metabolite patterns were detected. The current project involves results from gas and liquid mass spectroscopy analyses (GC-MS and LC-MS) and hence some 400 identified metabolites and 1600 unidentified metabolites.

Job assignments

This postdoctoral project focuses on analyzing big data with multivariate statistical methods including machine learning. In the study VOV, results from laboratory analyses of blood samples are available together with detailed dietary intake data to be used to identify patterns of biomarkers of habitual intake of protein sources. In the study Baritone, blood and urine samples will be analyzed with metabolomics during spring and fall 2026 in preparation of statistical analyses with machine learning, also including the already collected detailed dietary intake data. The aim here is to identify patterns of biomarkers of different protein sources during three intervention weeks with different diets. As postdoctor you will be responsible for the data analyses. You are expected to write scientific publications based on the results. Supervision of Master´s theses may also be included in the job assignment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree in a relevant subject, or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Assessment

The applicant must have a PhD degree in a field equivalent or similar to biostatistics, medicine, biomedicine, epidemiology or nutrition. Experience in analyzing big data in relation to health outcomes is required. Documented experience working with biomarkers of dietary intake is considered meritorious. As a postdoctoral researcher, you are expected to work both independently and collaboratively within the research group. You should be structured, meticulous, and possess a professional and positive attitude. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
