哥德堡大学

Postdoctor in mechanistic studies of airway diseases

项目介绍

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts research in several different areas, such as osteoporosis, endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, respiratory medicine and allergology, and clinical nutrition focusing on body composition and energy metabolism. The research is conducted in close collaboration with health care at both the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Mölndal Hospital.

The Krefting Research Centre (http://krefting.gu.se), Institute of Medicine, University of Gothenburg, is now recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a full-time, two-year position. The Centre gathers more than 20 researchers and research nurses, organized into three areas: the epidemiology of asthma, mechanistic studies of inflammation, and extracellular vesicles. This collaborative environment offers excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange and professional growth. A key resource at the Centre is the West Sweden Asthma Study (WSAS), one of Europe’s largest and most comprehensive epidemiological studies on asthma and lung disease. Beyond its core epidemiological and clinical research, WSAS provides translational projects with mechanistic insights into respiratory diseases, including collaborations with the allergy clinic and the COPD center at Sahlgrenska University hospital (SU).

Subject area

Mechanistic studies of airway diseases

Specific subject description

Respiratory diseases, such as asthma and COPD, are complex conditions where the underlying pathology is not yet fully understood. To understand disease mechanisms, preclinical models and in vitro experiments on cells from clinical samples are studied. In the current project, molecular processes in the immune system that can cause inflammation and disease pathology will be investigated. More specifically, the project focuses on how molecular components in mucus found in the respiratory tract affect the development of airway allergies and lung diseases.

Job assignments

The objective of the project is to map molecular mechanisms in immune cells and their interaction with mucus produced by the airway epithelium. The applicant is expected to work with preclinical models of allergic airway inflammation and cell cultures from blood. Analysis of proteins and mucins will be conducted using, among other methods, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, ELISA, Western blot, and RNA analysis by qPCR and sequencing. The position involves responsibility for ensuring that data quality and data management maintain a high standard, requiring both the ability to work independently and to collaborate with researchers at the Krefting Research Centre and the Mucin Biology Groups at the University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Furthermore, the role includes participating in the supervision of doctoral students and other junior researchers associated with the project.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree in a relevant subject, or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Assessment

The applicant must hold a doctoral degree in biomedicine, immunology, or a related field. Documented experience in laboratory work is a requirement. The position requires independence as well as a strong ability to collaborate with colleagues and external research groups, combined with the capacity to generate and drive one’s own research ideas. Excellent oral and written proficiency in English is required, as is the ability to produce coherent scientific texts, demonstrated by at least one published article as first author. Previous experience working with mucus and mucins, glycan analysis, mouse models, staining of tissue sections, cell culture, inflammatory cells, sequencing methods, flow cytometry, and/or analysis of RNA and proteins through molecular biology methods is an advantage. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability, where qualities such as creativity, collaborative skills, a structured approach, and problem-solving analytical ability are valued.
