Postdoc in novel approaches for compact wavelength-tunable lasers

项目介绍

Are you ready to shine with your research? Join us as a post-doctoral fellow at the Photonics Laboratory at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience. We offer an collaborative academic environment where scientific excellence and innovation flourish.

About us

The Photonics Laboratory is a dynamic research environment where light-based technologies drive innovation in communication, sensing, and computing. With expertise in optoelectronic devices, ultrafast optics, and fiber optical communication – from long-haul transmission to datacenter interconnects – we tackle real-world challenges at every scale. We’re a collaborative research team, where PhD students and postdocs work alongside senior scientists to shape the future of photonics. Our research is both experimental and theoretical and we have extensive international collaboration. We also have experience in commercializing our research. Our projects are supported by an in-house world-class infrastructure for clean-room devise fabrication (the Nanofabrication Laboratory).

About the research project

You will be involved in a project where compact silicon-nitride chip-based optical parametric amplifiers are at the center stage. We will explore these in several applications including super-sensitive receivers for deep-space communication and, in particular, as a gain medium in very widely wavelength-tunable parametric oscillators for numerous applications, for example optical coherence tomography. This research project also specifically aims at launching a spin-off company.

Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experimental research in photonics and optical communications and numerical modeling experience

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • A research profile related to optical parametric amplifiers and/or tunable lasers and their applications
  • Cleanroom experience including optical device fabrication
  • Entrepreneurial experience

What you will do

  • You will mostly be involved with evaluation optical devices fabricated in our cleanroom and explore their use in various experimental setups aiming at a range of applications.
  • Supervise master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent
  • Possibility to engage in teaching at undergraduate/master’s level

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.

Contract terms

The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn. We also reserve the right to withdraw an offer in case of an extensively delayed visa process (in the case that is needed).

What we offer

  • As a postdoc at Chalmers, you are an employee and enjoy all employee benefits. Read more about  working at Chalmers  and our benefits  for employees.
  • A dynamic and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg
  • Read more about Sweden’s generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, healthcare etc at Move To Gothenburg.

Chalmers is dedicated to improving gender balance and actively works with equality projects, such as the GENIE Initiative for gender equality and excellence. We celebrate diversity and consider equality and inclusion as fundamental aspects of all our activities.

If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses to help you settle in.
