Job description

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who wants to contribute to the transition towards the circular industry of the future through research into circular manufacturing systems and resource-efficient production solutions.

The research is conducted at the Department of Production Engineering at KTH and aims to support the manufacturing industry’s transition from linear to circular value chains. The project is based on a life cycle perspective where products, components and materials retain their value through reuse, remanufacturing and reintegration into production.

The position mainly involves further developing the research from the iReGear project in close collaboration with TRATON Group R&D. The focus is on how remanufactured transmission components can be integrated into production systems for new heavy vehicles and how circularity can be scaled up in industrial applications. The work includes analysis and development of component and material flows and identification of opportunities for reuse, reprocessing and remanufacturing, while taking technical, quality and operational requirements into account. The candidate is also expected to contribute to other ongoing and upcoming research initiatives.This position is part of KTH’s PROCEED initiative for research activities in Södertälje, which provides a unique opportunity for research collaboration with Traton/Scania and AstraZeneca. To enable close collaboration and collaboration, regular physical presence in Södertälje is included as an important part of the position. The position offers good opportunities to build a strong international network, develop your own research and contribute to the green transition of industry.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• The candidate must hold a PhD degree in engineering with M.Sc. and B.Sc. degree in production, manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or equivalent area.
• The successful candidate has academic publications in leading scientific peer-reviewed journals, preferably in the area of CE and/or production engineering.
• The ability to lead cross-disciplinary work and coordinate complex inputs from diverse research disciplines, collaborating organizations, and projects is crucial.
• The candidate has the ability to generate research ideas and use these ideas in order to create research proposals to secure funding.

Preferred qualifications

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
• Documented research experience in circular manufacturing systems, or a strong interest in the area.
• Experience in manufacturing, remanufacturing or circular production systems is an asset.
• Experience in research and innovation projects, including project development, research applications, consortium building and planning of activities and resources.
• Experience in project management and participation in national or international research projects, especially EU-funded projects, is an asset. Industrial experience from production environments is highly valued.
• Good ability to work in cross-functional and international teams and very good knowledge of English, since this is part of the daily work
• Experience in collaboration with industry and other stakeholders and the ability to communicate and disseminate research results to different target groups is an asset.
• Good collaborative ability together with the ability to work independently.
• Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality
