Description
At the Gote-Schniering lab of the University of Bern, we are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to develop computational approaches integrating single-cell and spatial multiomics with CT-derived imaging to study disease mechanisms in chronic lung disease.
Chronic lung diseases, including fibrotic lung disorders, are a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and remain a key challenge for precision medicine. The project will combine single-cell and spatial multiomics with CT-derived imaging features to study disease biology across scales – from molecular and cellular programs to tissue architecture and whole-organ phenotypes. The goal is to better understand disease mechanisms and develop predictive models for precision medicine.
Tasks
- analyze and integrate multiomics datasets (e.g. sc/snRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, highly multiplexed immunofluoresence),
- combine molecular profiles with radiological / radiomic imaging features,
- develop multimodal integration and radio-multiomics approaches,
- apply machine learning / deep learning methods for mechanistic discovery, disease stratification, and predictive modeling,
- collaborate closely with clinicians, biologists, and computational scientists.
We offer
- a highly interdisciplinary PhD project at the interface of bioinformatics, (bio-) medical imaging, and precision medicine,
- access to unique multimodal datasets and well-characterized clinical cohorts,
- a collaborative and internationally connected research environment,
- strong opportunities for scientific development, publication, and career growth.
