PHD SCHOLARSHIP IN TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY AT THE DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT, SOCIETY AND COMMUNICATION

项目介绍

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant PhD scholarship in Technology and Society at the Department of Management, Society and Communication (MSC). The expected start date is 1 September 2026.

MSC carries out multidisciplinary research on the relationship between business and society. Its faculty explores the conditions and practices of responsible management, organisation and governance in a globalising world, sharing a particular concern with culture, communication and context as lenses to understand the interaction and interdependencies of business and society. MSC’s contribution to the study of responsible business and governance is organised around various research environments.

Further information is available here: https://www.cbs.dk/research/department-management-society-and-communication.

The central objective of this PhD scholarship in Technology and Society is to advance our understanding of how digital transformations are reshaping work, organization, and society. The project should explore how new technologies and emerging modes of working in the digital economy influence experiences, management practices, and forms of knowledge production across different empirical contexts.

Possible areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to:

  • Emerging modes of organization, creative labor, and cultural and communicative work in digital environments
  • The role of technologies, automation, and algorithmic management in transforming organizational structures and labor relations
  • The societal, political, and geopolitical implications of AI and related technologies
  • The governance and regulation of AI, including questions of sustainability, responsibility, and democracy
  • The diffusion and consequences of AI in the Global South, and its implications for inequality and development.

These focus areas are indicative rather than exhaustive, and applications proposing other innovative approaches within this broad theme and the scope of the department are welcome.

Applicants are required to develop a theoretically grounded research proposal with a clear empirical focus. We welcome applicants from across the social sciences and humanities, including but not limited to organisation and business studies, communication studies, cultural studies, education, anthropology, sociology and political science. We particularly encourage proposals that include non-Western perspectives or Global South empirical contexts.

The successful PhD applicant will be a member of the Technology and Society Research cluster. It is required that the applicant indicates how the planned PhD research can contribute to this research environment.
