Contract terms and what we offer
- The PhD-positions are fully funded from start

- The position is limited to four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position to five years.

- A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).

About the project
This PhD position is funded by Chalmers’ Gender Initiative for Excellence | GENIE and will be based at Chalmers University of Technology. As a PhD student, you will:
- Focus on designing approximation algorithms and establishing hardness bounds for multidimensional packing and scheduling problems.
- Contribute to the theoretical underpinnings of discrete optimization and explore real-world applications in combinatorial problem-solving.
- Thrive in an environment that actively fosters inclusivity, equality, diversity, and work-life balance.
Your role and responsibilities
As a PhD student, you will:
- Enroll in a graduate program at the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
- Conduct research, develop your own ideas, collaborate with colleagues, and present results in written and oral formats.
- Take courses to deepen your understanding of the field and broaden your expertise.
- Participate in departmental activities, such as teaching (typically 20% of your time), in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
- Have opportunities to travel and engage with the international research community (as circumstances allow).
Who we are looking for
We welcome candidates with:
- A Master’s degree (corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits) in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Candidates expecting to complete their degree by the start of employment (August-September 2025) are also encouraged to apply.
- A strong background and keen interest in mathematics or computer science.
- Proficiency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
