PhD Position in Advanced Lipid-Based Cellular Membrane Mimicry and Interaction Studies

项目介绍

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join us in advancing lipid-based mimics of cellular membranes. This project explores surface-assisted lipid self-assembly using advanced tools such as QCM, SPR, and optical microscopy to investigate interactions between biological nanoparticles, including viruses and drug delivery vehicles, with sophisticated membrane models. This is an opportunity to develop your expertise in biophysics using cutting-edge facilities, collaborate with experts in biological, medical, and pharmaceutical sciences, and contribute to a rapidly expanding field. You will be working in a supportive academic environment that fosters innovation and growth.

Project overview

The primary aim of this biophysics-based project is to elucidate the interactions between biological nanoparticles and cellular membranes, with a particular focus on the influence of membrane composition. Through collaboration with researchers in pharmaceutical, biological, and medical disciplines, the work leverages cell-membrane mimics and lipid self-assembly to advance diagnostics, drug screening, drug delivery, and vaccine development. By bridging applied physics, nanoscience, chemistry, and biology, the project contributes to innovative analytical approaches and deep biophysical insights relevant to medicine.

About the research group

The Biophysics group, part of the Nano and Biophysics division, specializes in translational life-science research, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration with biological and medical settings. Our team develops surface-based bioanalytical microscopy tools and microfluidics for the study of cell-membrane mimics, membrane-protein analysis, and biological nanoparticle interactions. By integrating surface-sensitive microscopy, microfluidic platforms, and nanofabrication, we aim to improve diagnostic techniques and pharmaceutical applications, particularly in nanoparticle-mediated drug delivery systems.

Major responsibilities

As a PhD candidate, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting independent research and developing scientific concepts.
  • Communicating research results through written and verbal presentations.
  • Engaging in bioanalytical laboratory work, image analysis, and collaborative projects with biological and medical research groups.
  • Participating in undergraduate teaching and other duties, comprising up to 20% of your working hours.
  • Taking part in international exchanges to broaden your research experience.
