项目介绍
Oral streptococci are among the most predominant and influential bacterial species inhabiting the oral environment. These microorganisms play a significant role in maintaining the complex microbial ecosystem of the mouth. However, they are also closely associated with various oral and dental infections. Their ability to adhere to oral surfaces, form biofilms, and interact with other microbial species makes them key players in the development and progression of these conditions. Moreover, oral streptococci are of particular concern due to their ecological significance as reservoirs for the emergence and dissemination of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
The oral cavity, being a dynamic environment with frequent exposure to antibiotics through medical and dental treatments, provides a fertile ground for the selection and propagation of resistant strains. These resistant bacteria not only pose challenges in managing oral infections but also have the potential to spread to other parts of the body or be transmitted to other individuals, contributing to the global public health issue of antibiotic resistance. Understanding the evolutionary behavior, interactions with drugs, and resistance mechanisms is therefore crucial for developing effective strategies to prevent and manage oral diseases, as well as to mitigate the broader implications of antibiotic resistance.
