PhD at the Department of Electronics and Information Systems

项目介绍

Job description

We are looking for two motivated PhD students in biomedical engineering to join the Medical Image and Signal Processing (MEDISIP) research group. MEDISIP is part of the Institute of Biomedical Technology (IBiTech), a dynamic hub where biophysicists and engineers collaborate on cutting-edge biomedical research.
Successful applicants will work on a VLAIO-funded project focused on developing an AI-driven pipeline for image enhancement, segmentation, analysis, and quality control in (pre)clinical medical imaging. You will have the exciting opportunity to work with a variety of advanced imaging modalities, including CT, PET, SPECT, and MRI, gaining hands-on experience and broadening your expertise across multiple technologies. This role also offers opportunities to attend international conferences, conduct hands-on imaging experiments beyond AI development, and collaborate with a diverse network of academic and industry partners.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer a full-time doctoral fellowship, starting with an initial contract of 12 months that, upon positive evaluation, can be extended up to a maximum of 48 months.
  • The contract will start between January 1, 2025, and October 1, 2025.
  • The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by the Department of Personnel and Organization based on family status and seniority. A grant that meets the conditions and criteria of the regulations for doctoral fellowships is considered free of personal income tax. Click here for more information about our salary scales
  • All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance and eco vouchers. Click here for a complete overview of all the staff benefits.
  • As a PhD candidate, you will work towards a doctoral degree through the Doctoral Schools program at Ghent University under the supervision of Prof. Brent van der Heyden, Prof. Christian Vanhove, and Prof. Stefaan Vandenberghe.

Job profile

You hold a Master’s degree in Engineering (Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Science Engineering) or a Master of Science in Physics or Informatics. You are a dynamic, collaborative individual who thrives in a multidisciplinary research environment. You are flexible, goal-oriented, and comfortable working towards deadlines. You are willing to travel internationally for meetings or experimental measurements. You have a strong background in medical imaging and image processing, with experience in programming using MATLAB, Python, and/or C++. Experience with Keras or PyTorch is a plus. Ideally, you have demonstrated expertise in medical image processing and analysis using Artificial Intelligence. While funding for a 4-year PhD is available, candidates are encouraged to apply for personal funding as an additional opportunity to support their research.

How to apply

To apply, please submit your application (including a non-AI-generated motivation letter, CV, and contact details of minimally one reference) to ainimo_job@ugent.be. Candidates who are in the final stages of their Master’s degree are also welcome to apply. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so we encourage submitting your application as soon as possible.
