The Faculty of Social Sciences in Tampere University is seeking a motivated and talented applicant for a Doctoral Researcher position to work for a research project “Midlife antecedents of the disease burden at old age: individual participant data meta-analysis of multi-cohort studies (IPD-MAD)” funded by the Academy of Finland 2021-2026. The position filled for a fixed-term period of 3.5 years from November 2021, at the latest.
The recruited researcher will work in IPD-MAD project which seek to addresses the effect of midlife antecedents on health at old age and seek to explain mechanisms associating with the old age health impairment and ultimately to reduce the disease burden. The projects consist of four work packages. The project utilises prospective cohort data from nine cohorts across Europe and the USA that followed people from midlife to old age. Individual participant data meta-analytical approach will be used to analyze the pooled effect of the exposures on the outcomes. Our final output is to assess the burden of these disease conditions attributable to the midlife working conditions.
We are looking for a Doctoral Researcher to work especially for sub-studies:
midlife antecedents and all-cause mortality and to assess the burden of all-cause mortality attributable to the midlife exposures.
Within sub-studies the recruited researcher will work with a group of researchers from occupational health research group at the unit of Health Sciences at TAU. There are also opportunities to collaborate and working with national and international collaborators involved in the project.
You are a highly motivated researcher holding a MSc in field of health science that is relevant for the described research project (e.g. epidemiology, public health). Experience and knowledge in statistical methods and basic analytical skills is required. Strong motivation to learn new statistical methods. Knowledge in one or more of statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, R, M-Plus. Strong analytical and writing skills as well as proficiency in English language. In addition, the Finnish language skills will be beneficial.
Temporary assignment for a three years and six months period of 1.11.2021-30.04.2025.
