Doctoral student in sustainable sinter-based additive manufacturing of components for high performance applications

项目介绍

About us

At the Department of Mechanichal Engineering, we unite the power of technology, people, and society to drive the transition toward a sustainable future. Through research, education, and collaboration, we create solutions that connect materials to mobility, ideas to impact – shaping a resilient and sustainable world. We make impact.

The Division of Materials and Manufacture conducts research across the full value chain, from materials design and processing to advanced manufacturing and characterisation, with a strong emphasis on metallic systems. We combine interdisciplinary expertise with close industry collaboration to develop sustainable materials and manufacturing technologies.

About the research project

The national competence centre CAM2 (Centre for Additive Manufacturing – Metal) provides a unique possibility for academy-industry co-operation with focus on material development for powder-based metal AM technologies. We take the next steps to further develop high-resolution metal AM of advanced components using recent advanced in lithography-based metal manufacturing (LMM) as well as lithography-based high-resolution multi-material AM (LCMM). Research will cover numerous challenges of material and process development for LMM and LCMM, including debinding, sintering, simulation and advanced characterization.

Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • To qualify as a Doctoral student, you must have a Master’s degree (masterexamen) of 120 credits or a Master’s degree (magisterexamen) of 60 credits* in Materials Science, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Mechanics, Physics or Production Engineering
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience in metal AM, ceramic AM, metallic and ceramic materials and inorganic chemistry
  • Personal competences in accordance with the requirements profile including specification (e.g. social skills, meaning that you enjoy collaborating with others)

*for students with an education earned outside of Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • Experience in powder metallurgy, thermal analysis, organic and inorganic chemistry, CAD, metallurgy, sintering, sinter-based  AM technologies, materials characterisation, microscopy

What you will do

  • Take courses at an advanced level within the Graduate school of Materials Science (Materials Science | Chalmers )
  • Develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing
  • The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers’ undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 10 percent of working hours
  • Perform your own research as part of the research group in CAM2 focusing on development of novel materials for hydrogen application enabled by sustainable sinter-based metal AM, multi-materials for electromagnetic and battery applications, advanced materials simulation and characterisation

Contract terms

  • The Doctoral student positions are fully funded from start.
  • The position is a fixed-term appointment of four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position up to five years.
  • A starting salary of 35,725 SEK per month (valid from May 1, 2026).
  • Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the entire study period. A valid residence permit must be presented by the study start date; otherwise the admission may be withdrawn.
