Cognitive Science within the project Social Interaction with Autonomous Artefacts

项目介绍

Lund University, The Faculties of Humanities and Theology, Department of Philosophy

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has around 44 000 students and more than 8 000 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

The Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology have eight departments and carries out large and varied work within research and education with the purpose to understand people as cultural and social beings. The faculties have around 700 employees and around 4000 students.

The Department of Philosophy has about 70 employees. Research and education at the department is conducted within three subjects: Cognitive science, Practical philosophy and Theoretical philosophy. While these subjects to a large extent conduct research and education independently, there are also close collaborations between them. Read about current activities at the department’s webpage.

The PhD position is placed within the multidisciplinary project Social interaction with autonomous artefacts in cognitive science and theoretical philosophy and tied to the Cognitive Robotics Lab and CogComLab. The project aims to develop sustainable, reliable, humane, and inclusive models of interaction between human and artefact within the perspective of embodied and embedded cognition. It examines dynamic and developmental aspects of human-artefact interaction and the underlying mechanisms to clarify the function and influence of such interaction on human behaviour and forms of life.

The PhD project will investigate ecologically, socially, culturally, and existentially sustainable interaction between human and artefact, by combining knowledge and skills in cognitive modelling, philosophy, and cognitive science, and using our humanoid robot platform Epi (https://www.lucs.lu.se/epi/).

The project is part of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program — Humanities and Society (WASP-HS), financed by the Wallenberg Foundations. WASP-HS aims to realize excellent research and develop competence on the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems with a strong investment on research in humanities and social science. See https://wasp-hs.org

The PhD position entails participation in WASP-HS Graduate School https://wasp-hs.org/graduate-school/
