The Department of Chemistry at The University of Hong Kong is a highly research active Department. According to QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings 2012, our Department ranks 9th in the world out of 200 universities in the subject area of chemistry! For the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2014, our Department ranked No.1 among all chemistry departments in Hong Kong. We are proud of our long tradition of excellence in research and research training. Admission Requirements for Dept of Chemistry
A B. Sc. degree with IIA honours or above from this University or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution.
An M. Phil. (Research) degree from this University or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution.
A B. Sc. degree with 1st Honours from this University or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution.
Research; ethics course, compulsory and elective postgraduate courses

Students accepted to read for the M. Phil. can apply to transfer to the 4-year Ph. D. program after successfully completing the first year of studies
In addition, if your B. Sc. is obtained from a university or an institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, you will also need to fulfill an English requirement.
Departmental Requirements For MPhil students: Participation in and presentation at research seminars and/or guided study. For PhD students: Participation in and presentation at seminars; any other specific departmental requirements.
For the on-line application, you should have ready your certificates and complete transcripts of your undergraduate and postgraduate studies which will need to be uploaded via the on-line application system. An application fee of $150 applies and can be paid by credit card.
Area of interest and potential supervisor
Before application, you are strongly encouraged to explore the research interests of our Research Supervisors and to communicate with one or more potential supervisors, who will be able to discuss further details about their research programs and their projected number of RPg intakes in the upcoming academic year.
