Postdoc in nanoscale quantum imaging with scanning NV magnetometry – DTU Energy

项目介绍

Do you want to contribute to a greener future by introducing state-of-the-art scanning nitrogen-vacancy (NV) magnetometry to visualize buried functional processes in energy and electronic materials that are otherwise inaccessible to materials scientists?

At DTU Energy, our research targets exactly this, and to reach these goals, we are looking for a postdoc to work at the interface between future energy materials and state-of-the-art quantum sensing using NV magnetometry.

You will work in a large team and must therefore both thrive in team-based research as well as contribute to a productive and pleasant research environment. During the project, you will work closely together with material scientists providing you with energy/electronic materials and devices as well as colleagues who will complement your work with DFT, phase-field and FEM simulations. You will also have the opportunity to carry out simulations applying our pre-established numerical models, if you so desire.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Perform in-operando measurements of buried current and magnetization distributions of various electronic, magnetic and energy materials/devices.
  • Optimize the sensing schemes of a new state-of-the-art commercial scanning NV magnetometer with variable temperature operation (2-330C) and 1T vector magnet.
  • Help establish the methodology as a key characterization tool for measuring buried functional processes in energy materials.

Qualified applicants must have:

  • A strong drive to move the frontiers of science.
  • Experience with scanning probe microscopy or magnetic imaging techniques. Extensive hands-on experience with NV magnetometry, scanning SQUID magnetometry or similar techniques is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in programming, ideally using Python.
  • Structured work attitude and ability to plan and carry out sophisticated research activities.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff: www.inside.dtu.dk/en/human-resources/during-employment/salary/salary-structures.

The period of employment is 2 years. The starting date is 1 January 2027 (or according to mutual agreement).

If you are applying from abroad, you may find useful information on working in Denmark and at DTU at DTU – Moving to Denmark.

Application procedure
Your complete online application must be submitted no later than 9 November 2026 (23:59 Danish time).

Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply, please open the link “Apply now”, fill out the online application form, and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include:

  • Application (cover letter), which describes your competencies in relation to this job, in particular any hands-on experience with magnetic imaging or NV magnetometry.
  • CV
  • Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD – in English)
  • List of publications

To be considered for the job, it is mandatory that the cover letter is not only submitted online but also sent directly to dechr@dtu.dk with the email title: ‘Scanning Magnetometry Postdoc’.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.

The Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy) focuses on research and development of functional materials, components, and systems for sustainable energy technologies. The technologies include fuel cells, electrolysis, power-to-x, batteries, and carbon capture. The research is based on strong competences on electrochemistry, atomic scale and multi-physics modelling, autonomous materials discovery, materials processing, and structural analyses. We also focus on educating engineering students at all levels, ranging from BSc, MSc, PhD to lifelong learning students. We have about 300 dedicated employees.
