Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Structural Design for Robotic Assembly

项目介绍

Are you passionate about computational structural design and eager to shape the future of digital construction? Do you have a strong interest in robotic fabrication and autonomous assembly? Would you like to contribute to an ambitious interdisciplinary research project at the intersection of structural engineering, architecture, robotics, and computation?

As part of an EU-funded research project, we are establishing an interdisciplinary research team, in partnership with leading universities across Europe, to develop innovative approaches for the design and construction of timber structures that can be autonomously assembled by robotic swarms.

About us
Our group at the Professorship of Structural Design at the TUM School of Engineering and Design, led by Prof. Dr. Pierluigi D’Acunto, investigates innovative design and construction strategies that promote the efficient and sustainable use of material resources. Central to our research is the exploration of the relationship between structural form and force flow as a driver for material-effective building systems. At the intersection of structural engineering, architecture, and digital fabrication, we develop advanced computational design methods for structural form-finding, performance-driven design, and fabrication-aware workflows.

What we offer
We offer a 3-year full-time (100%) Postdoctoral Research position in an interdisciplinary academic environment. You will work in a dynamic and international research team with excellent working conditions at the Professorship of Structural Design at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Employment is with appropriate remuneration in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the German Federal States (TV-L E13). The position will start on 1 October 2026. At TUM, we are committed to increasing the number of female employees, and we strongly encourage applications from women. The position is suitable for people with disabilities. Disabled applicants will be given preference in case of generally equivalent suitability, aptitude, and professional performance.

What we expect from you
Candidates should hold a PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in Structural Engineering, Computational Mechanics, or a closely related discipline. A demonstrated interest in computational structural design and strong programming skills, particularly in Python, are essential. Experience in timber engineering, geometry processing, and robotic fabrication is highly desirable. Excellent written and spoken English skills are required; proficiency in German is advantageous but not mandatory. We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive researcher who thrives in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and international environment, demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities, and is committed to advancing cutting-edge research.

Information about the application process
We look forward to receiving your application via e-mail to recruitment.sd@ed.tum.de by 26 July 2026. Your application should include a cover letter (max. 2 pages), CV (max. 5 pages), and a list of relevant publications (max. 5 pages). The maximum file size of your application should not exceed 10 MB, and all documents should be in PDF format.
