The Leuven Institute of Criminology (LINC) was founded in 2007. It currently groups about 70 professors, researchers and assistants involved in criminological research and teaching. LINC forms part of the Faculty of Law and Criminology, KU Leuven.
Project
- You will be starting a four-year PhD position, in the new research project Framing Justice for Victims, funded by KU Leuven and under the supervision of professor Antony Pemberton, in cooperation with emeritus professor Stephan Parmentier.
- The aim of the project is to identify atrocity victims’ needs via qualitative case studies of the Syrian and Ukrainian diasporas. To do so the project will consist of in-depth narrative interviews with victims of the violent conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, residing in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. - The project is connected to the NWO VICI-WOVEN project of prof. Pemberton at NSCR in the Netherlands.
Profile
- You have a master’s degree (or equivalent), preferably in a relevant domain (e.g., criminology, victimology, psychology, law, sociology, economics, (public) management, political science, security science).
- Good study results are indispensable.
- You have a strong interest in scientific research in general and victimological topics in particular. Experience with conducting research with vulnerable research participants in recommended.
- You possess demonstrable scientific and communication skills (e.g., critical thinking, methodological skills, writing skills, presentation skills, project management).
- You have an excellent command of the English language. Much of the empirical research will be conducted in English. In addition, the researcher will need to be able to present his/her research at international conferences, as well as to publish the research findings in high-quality international scientific journals.
- You possess sufficient command of the Dutch language.
- You have social skills that allow to work in a team, combined with the necessary skills to work independently on separate sub-projects.
- You are creative and flexible and combine this with strong administrative and organizational skills.
