PhD-position

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Science, a full-time PhD-position is available for a period of three (3) years. The position is part of the project “AIRE, IL-12 and interferon-g; Drivers of immune tolerance and T cell function”, funded by the Norwegian Research Council

About the project/work tasks:

  • The project is based on how AIRE, IL 12 and IFN γ cooperate to establish immunological tolerance in the thymus, and how failure of these mechanisms can lead to autoimmune diseases. AIRE mutations cause severe autoimmunity, and both mouse models and patient data show disruptions in IL 12/IFN γ signalling. The project seeks to understand how these factors affect the thymus, T cell development and immune tolerance, and investigates whether targeted modulation of the IL 12/IFN γ axis can restore immune balance. This combines basic research, genetics and translational immunology.
  • The position involves work with advanced mouse models, including a new combined AIRE and IL 12 deficient model to study autoimmunity. You will perform analyses of thymus, T cells and peripheral immune cells using flow cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing and CODEX based tissue imaging. The work also includes functional characterization of genetic variants identified in patient cohorts, as well as testing of immunomodulatory drugs that affect IL 12/IFN γ signalling. the role of IL-12 and interferon gamma in AIRE-mediated immune tolerance

  • The applicant must possess a Master`s degree or an equivalent in molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, or biomedical sciences or similar.
  • The candidate must have documented laboratory experience from a molecular biology laboratory.
