Your work assignments
In this role, you will conduct research focused on the development of new generative AI models and deep learning methods for creating, editing, and optimizing photorealistic computer graphics and 3D scenes, and rendering in real-time. You will work closely with senior researchers and other PhD students in projects exploring the intersection of neural rendering (e.g., NeRF and Gaussian Splatting) and traditional computer graphics.
As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at Master’s level in media technology, computer science and engineering, engineering physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or equivalent, or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in a relevant subject such as machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, or image analysis. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.
Excellent programming skills in Python and C++, documented experience in computer graphics, GPU development, as well as practical experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow are required. Since the research is conducted in an international environment, excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is required.

The employment

The employment has a duration of normally four years’ full-time equivalent. Extension of employment up to five years is based on the degree of teaching and institutional assignment. Further extensions may be granted in exceptional circumstances. You will initially be employed for one year, after which your employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, depending on your progress through the study plan.

This position may come to be a security classified position. If so, security screening including a records check will be carried out before any decision on employment is made.

The salary of PhD students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression.
