he Professorship for Experimental Fluid Dynamics (Prof. Claudia Brunner) at the Technical University of Munich seeks two PhD or postdoctoral researchers. The projects focus on turbulence, aerodynamics, wind turbines, and wake dynamics using laboratory and field experiments. Building on recent group research, both positions offer opportunities to develop experimental methods and gain physical insight. Start date is flexible; positions are available immediately.

THE PROJECTS
1. Field-scale Lagrangian particle tracking in the near wake of a wind turbine The objective of this project is to understand the impact of inflow turbulence on tip vortex formation and breakdown by conducting large-scale flow visualisation measurements in the wake of a field-scale wind turbine using drones, soap bubbles, high-speed cameras and particle tracking algorithms. You will use Lagrangian analysis methods to identify coherent structures and their evolution in the near wake. The project includes outdoor experimental campaigns under a range of weather conditions. It is funded by a DFG-WEAVE grant.
2. Wind tunnel experiments on turbulent transport in wind turbine wakes
The objective of this project is to understand the impact of inflow turbulence characteristics on wind turbine wake mixing and entrainment using wind tunnel measurements. The research will likely combine multiple measurement techniques including hot-wire anemometry and Lagrangian particle tracking. This project may also involve measurements in the pressurised wind tunnel at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, in
addition to the boundary layer wind tunnel at TU Munich.
YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated early-career researchers to join our team.
You should have:
• a Master or PhD degree in engineering, physics or a related field.
• research experience in experimental fluid dynamics or a related field.
• ability and desire to work in a diverse and international team.
• good command of English. German language skills are not required.
