Postdoctoral Research Fellow position

We welcome your application for a postdoctoral research fellow position within the Department of Psychosocial Science, Faculty of Psychology.

The position is for a fixed term of 3 years and is associated with the project Technology-Enhanced Cognitive Resilience Toolkit for Disinformation Detection, Vulnerability Profiling, and Digital User Empowerment (infoSHIELD), funded by the Norwegian Research Council. 

About the project/work tasks:

  • Conduct research within the infoSHIELD project, a five-year initiative funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The project examines misinformation and disinformation in the context of emerging technologies, especially the proliferation of AI. The project combines traditional psychological assessment and psychophysiological methods to assess vulnerability to AI-generated misinformation and aims to build mitigation strategies.
  • Design, implement, and manage experimental studies combining behavioral and psychophysiological methods (e.g., EEG, skin conductance, or related measures) to investigate cognitive and affective responses.
  • Contribute to data collection, preprocessing, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results, while ensuring methodological and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of researchers and project partners, and contribute to joint outputs, including scientific publications, reports, and presentations.

The position is based in Bergen, Norway. On-site presence is required to support coordination and laboratory work, including participant recruitment and psychophysiological testing.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

You must:

  • have successfully defended your PhD in Cognitive neuroscience, Psychophysiology, Biological Psychology, or related fields at the time of application.
  • be willing to relocate to Bergen.
  • be willing to participate in extended periods of research visits abroad to perform a research stay at project partner institutions.
  • be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others
  • have excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • have experience with advanced programming (e.g., R, Python, or Matlab) for data analysis.
  • have experience or academic background in clinical/health psychology.

It is an advantage if you:

  • have experience in the collection and analysis of EEG and physiological data.
  • have experience in human-AI or Human-computer interaction research area.
  • have experience in developing and validating psychometric instruments.
  • have experience in psychological experiment software (i.e., Psychopy, Psychtoolbox, Psytoolkit).

About the position of postdoctoral research fellow:

The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of developing your research profile and expertise so that you can apply for a position as Associate Professor. The fixed-term period for this position is 3 years. You cannot be employed in a postdoctoral research fellow position for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution. In accordance with the Research Council’s rules, neither can anyone be hired more than once as an NFR-financed postdoctoral research fellow.

The University of Bergen is subjected to the regulation for export control system. The regulation will be applied in the processing of the applications. If the university has not received the assessment from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within 6-12 weeks after applying for an export license, any offer of employment will be rescinded.

Upon appointment, applicants must submit a project proposal for the qualifying work including a work schedule. For postdoctoral research fellow positions associated with externally financed projects, the completion of the project proposal for the qualifying work will take place in consultation with the project manager. It is a requirement that the project is completed in the course of the period of employment.
