PhD position

The Faculty of Medicine, Department of  Clinical science, is offering a full-time PhD-position for a duration of three (3) years.

The position is part of the project “Onko-mAb”, funded by the University of Bergen.

About the project/work tasks

The position is associated with a project that studies the personalization of treatment with therapeutic monoclonal antibodies used across various indications. As a PhD candidate, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team consisting of physicians, chemists, mathematicians, and pharmacists, in addition to a range of clinical collaborators. In the coming years, it may also be relevant to establish interdisciplinary working groups to address immune-mediated adverse effects of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic models for therapeutic monoclonal antibodies used across various indications
  • Actively assess the clinical relevance of results obtained from measurements of drug concentrations and modeling

Qualifications and personal qualities

  • The applicant must possess a Master`s degree or an equivalent
  • A Master’s degree in Pharmacy is an advantage; however, applicants with a Master’s degree in other relevant fields (e.g., molecular biology or medical technology) will be considered
  • Knowledge of fundamental pharmacological principles (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) is an advantage
  • Experience from relevant research projects, including scientific publishing, is an advantage
  • Experience with laboratory work and analytical methods will be considered positively
  • The successful candidate must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have strong collaboration skills
  • Ability and motivation to complete a doctoral research project
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, see documentation requirements

Organized research training (PhD program)

The selected candidate will be required to enrol in the University of Bergen’s approved PhD programme, aiming to complete the degree within three years. Admission to the organized research training (PhD program) at the Faculty is essential for this position. 

Application for admission to the PhD programme, including a project plan outline for the training plan, must be submitted no later than three months after the date of commencement.

The PhD-position

PhD-positions are fixed-term appointments. Candidates cannot be employed in a PhD position for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution, nor have held a similar position at any institution within the region.

  • Salary NOK 570 000 (code 1017) in the state salary scale. For applicants with at least one year of employment in a position as a General Practitioner or Dentist, salary NOK 585 000 (For applicants who are licensed as medical doctors or dentists, documentation of Norwegian authorization must be submitted with the application.). Medical specialist starts on salary NOK 605 000 (For applicants with specialist training, a certificate of specialist approval from the Norwegian Directorate of Health must also be included.)
