Job description
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team working on neutron scattering and advanced technologies for quantum and magnetic materials. The project focuses on understanding magnetic structures and excitations using state-of-the-art neutron scattering techniques—key tools for exploring emergent phenomena in condensed matter systems. You will work at the forefront of experimental condensed matter physics, applying elastic and inelastic neutron scattering to investigate magnetic order and spin dynamics. The research aims to resolve complex spin structures and correlate them with underlying interactions, contributing to fundamental understanding as well as future functional materials. Your main responsibilities include designing and performing experiments at international large-scale facilities, analyzing complex neutron scattering datasets, and carrying out magnetic and spin structure refinement. You are also expected to contribute to the development and implementation of neutron-based instrumentation and experimental methods, as well as supervise undergraduate students. The project is embedded in a dynamic and collaborative research environment at KTH, within the Light & Matter Physics division and the Quantum Technologies & Materials group. You will interact closely with experts in neutron scattering, magnetism, and quantum materials, and benefit from strong international collaborations.
Qualifications
Requirements
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
- You have experience with advanced characterization techniques using neutron scattering, including elastic and/or inelastic methods, applied to magnetic materials.
- You have demonstrated expertise in analyzing neutron scattering data and are familiar with methods for magnetic and spin structure refinement.
- Experience working at large-scale research facilities is required.
- You have strong data analysis skills and experience handling complex experimental datasets.
Preferred qualifications
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
- Experience in developing or building neutron instrumentation or experimental setups, as well as experience in commissioning neutron instruments, is meritorious
- As a person, you are independent, structured, and able to drive your research forward.
- You have strong collaborative abilities and can work effectively in interdisciplinary and international teams.
- We prefer that you are proactive, solution-oriented, and interested in advancing neutron-based technologies
- Teaching experience or a demonstrated pedagogical interest is valued. It is commendable if you have experience supervising students or contributing to teaching activities.
- You demonstrate awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with a specific focus on gender equality.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
