PhD Position High-Throughput Operando Spectroscopy and Kinetics of Molecular Hydrogenation Catalysis

项目介绍

Join us at TU Delft! We’re hiring a PhD to develop a high-throughput platform for operando spectroscopy & kinetics in molecular hydrogenation catalysis. Start: Sept 2025. #PhD #Catalysis

Job description

We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate with a strong background in chemistry and a keen interest in physical chemistry, spectroscopy, and experimental innovation. The successful candidate will join the NWO VICI-funded project DYNACAT in the ISE group by prof. dr. Evgeny Pidko, which aims to uncover new principles for improving the durability and efficiency of earth-abundant molecular hydrogenation catalysts. In this position, you will develop a next-generation high-throughput testing platform to combine and automate kinetic and spectroscopic analysis of catalytic reactions under realistic conditions. The project focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanisms behind catalyst activity and deactivation in (de)hydrogenation reactions of challenging organic substrates with applications ranging from H2 storage to sustainable production of fine and speciality chemistry. You will work at the intersection of experimental chemistry and data-driven science, developing and using automated systems and operando spectroscopy (UV-Vis, FTIR, GC/MS) to extract rich mechanistic insight from parallel catalytic experiments.

We offer:

  • A highly interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment.
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities for high-pressure catalysis, catalyst synthesis and chracterization, and operando analysis.
  • Opportunities to shape and lead the development of a cutting-edge experimental platform.
  • An inclusive and dynamic group with strong international and cross-disciplinary connections.

This position is part of the Inorganic Systems Engineering (ISE) group at TU Delft, a vibrant and diverse team working on frontier problems in molecular and heterogeneous catalysis through close integration of computation, spectroscopy, and theory. The position is expected to start in September 2025.

Job requirements

We seek a candidate who:

  • Holds a MSc degree in chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline.
  • Is enthusiastic about chemistry, catalysis, and motivated by fundamental scientific questions.
  • Is skilled in physical chemistry, kinetics, and spectroscopy.
  • Excited to build and operate advanced experimental setups (including automation and data integration).
  • Is a strong experimentalist with developed analytical and programming skills.
  • Is fluent in English and has good scientific presentation and writing skills.
  • Open to working in a team, hand in hand with computational chemists, organometallic chemists, and data scientists.
