The Department of Accounting, Finance & Insurance is looking for highly motivated candidates, interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Business Economics at KU Leuven.

Project

You will conduct research in the broad field of financial markets and investments. The precise agenda will be determined jointly with the PhD candidate, supervisor and co-supervisor. This may include – but is not limited to –  empirical and theoretical research on financial markets’ microstructure and stability, asset pricing, fintech, and risk management.

Profile

The candidate should have a master degree in economics, finance, econometrics or business engineering (before October 2025). Successful candidates should have excellent qualifications at master level.A very strong interest in scientific research especially in the topics mentioned in the project description is expected. The position and supervision process are geared towards preparing the successful candidate for a career in academia.Excellent methodological skills and a good understanding of financial economics are considered an asset. The candidate should have a high level of proficiency in English sufficient to communicate effectively with colleagues and peers.

Offer

We offer a full-time position as a Ph.D. scholarship recipient, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which – upon positive evaluation – will be extended to a maximum of 4 years.The Department of Accounting, Finance & Insurance offers a dynamic, stimulating and pleasant working environment. The student will be part of the Research Group Finance (https://feb.kuleuven.be/research/accounting-finance-insurance/Finance), which enjoys a strong international reputation and is part of a wide network consisting of other universities, companies and institutions. The student will be able to further develop skills through Ph.D. courses, seminars and international conferences.The contract can start as of October 1, 2025.
